История ругательств: Подлец

это слово по происхождению польское и означало всего-навсего "простой, незнатный человек”. Так, известная пьеса А. Островского "На всякого мудреца довольно простоты” в польских театрах шла под названием "Записки подлеца”. Соответственно, к "подлому люду” относились все не шляхтичи.
